A Luxury Shopping Guide to Rome

Known for its chic style and exquisite couture, the treasures inside Rome’s elegant retail emporiums marry beautifully with the splendour outside. Start your shopping trip with a cappuccino on Hotel de la Ville’s stylish rooftop terrace, then head out to the Spanish Steps right on our doorstep. Follow them down to discover two of Rome’s most exclusive shopping streets, Via Borgognona and Via Condotti, with the promise of more brands and beauty beyond.

Via Condotti

A street that’s lined with plenty of eye candy, Via Condotti is home to some of the most exquisite international and Italian fashion houses, from Louis Vuitton and Prada to Gucci and Dior. Pick up a pair of this season’s brogues from Italian men’s fashion designer Brioni or venture into the quiet courtyard that’s home to Battistoni, a heritage haute couture menswear specialist with a sharp skill for tailored suits and monogrammed shirts. Jewellery lovers, meanwhile, should head over to Harry Winston for diamonds, Bvlgari for a pair of white gold earrings studded with sapphires, or to Roman favourite Damiani for timeless hand-crafted pieces.

Via Borgognona

A little quieter but no less elegant, Via Borgognona runs parallel to Via Condotti. A paradise for fashion lovers, all manner of designer heels have navigated this smart cobblestone street in pursuit of high-end brands like Stella McCartney, Gucci and Balenciaga. Seek out Italian designer Il Bisonte, which crafts elegant leather accessories, while Brunello Cucinelli is the place for sumptuously soft cashmere and Eddy Monetti for high-end menswear.

Via Vittorio Veneto

Those familiar with Fellini will love shopping on Via Vittorio Veneto, which was immortalised in the 1960 classic film, La Dolce Vita. Today it’s still a place to see and be seen, just as it was for Rome’s chic society back in the 50s and 60s. Channel some of that vintage glamour at Café Doney and refuel with an espresso or linger over a distinguished lunch before heading back out to explore the vintage shoes in Casuccio e Scalera or stylish womenswear at Boutique Luisa Spagnoli. If you’re still exploring Via Vittorio Veneto in the early evening, swing by Harry’s Bar for a little more decadence, with live piano music accompanying well-crafted cocktails.

Via del Boschetto

This is the place for unique, one-of-a-kind items, such as jewellery from Eliodoro or Ashanti Galleria, artisanal fashion from Kokoro, and art from Macelleria Roberto di Jullo Roma.A stone’s throw—about 10 minutes on foot or by taxi—from Via del Boschetto is the flagship Rinascente store on Via del Tritone. There are around 800 prestigious brands spread over its gleaming 14,000 square metres. This is one of Rome’s most established department stores, having set up shop here in 1917. There’s even a Roman archaeological site in the basement delivering a serving of ancient culture alongside your shopping spree.
